'Obsessed'
is the prompt this week at Illustration Friday

Molly was a girl obsessed with her Jolly Brolly, not only did it protect her from the elements, but it was quite a fashion statement amongst her circle of friends.

There are links in our lives like threads of string that entwine us in their stories and histories. Sometimes the threads come together to form tapestries in our minds eye.

I have been researching the Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) and it's existence in Tasmania.

Unfortunately, it is now extinct and other animals are following the pattern of endangerment.

As with all histories, it is difficult to know what is true and what is folklore, what is factual and what is a mere desire to be true.

The more I research this particular topic, the more curious I become.

I have decided to follow one thread of this Tapestry and create my own visual story, in no way do I propose that my imagery will be factual in fact, I’m openly flaunting the artistic right to create what I see in MY minds eye,

The women and their dedication to this species.

'Perennial'
is the prompt this week at Illustration Friday

“A good scientist is a person in whom the childhood quality of perennial curiosity lingers on. Once he gets an answer, he has other questions.” ~ Frederick Seitz

This painting is a detail from a piece I'm working on at the moment. It's about the Thylacine cynocephalus(Tasmanian Tiger).

The Thylacine is a large carnivorous marsupial now believed to be extinct. It was the only member of the family Thylacinidae to survive into modern times. It is also known as the Tasmanian Tiger or Tasmanian Wolf

Any advice on essential oils?
I have a little oil burner in my studio, it came in a 'beginners' pack with vanilla,I'd love to find a scent that isn't too strong is calm and pleasant.
Any ideas?

Although I call it MY studio, I do share it with my choccy labrador 'Toro' and 'Darcie' the cat is often nestled on a cushion in the sunlight. So, although the room isn't stinky ... it does smell of paint (a perfectly good smell) I would like to create a nice scent, before it becomes stinky pet-zone!!!!

"Stay"
is the prompt this week at Illustration Friday

"Life opens up opportunities to you, and you either take them or you stay afraid of taking them."
 ~ Jim Carrey

(acrylic and mixed media on hardboard)

When I read this quote I think of all the brave people who have left their homelands in search of  'more' for their families throughout time, throughout the world.
Living in Tasmania, I am particularly aware of the history of forced and willing settlement to a little island so isolated and unique.
The more I delve into the history and admire it's natural beauty, the less I seem to know.
I went to the museum and art gallery this week and was given a special peek into the vaults, by a very lovely and fascinating lady, I am now armed with a little more knowledge and images of this island and especially of the mightly Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger)
more to come soon....

Hope you have a wonderful weekend
