Country Living

SPRING

It felt like a long Winter this year, so the joy of sunshine, budding flowers and lambs is wonderful to see.

Sending you all some Spring sunshine today,

"SUGAR AND SPICE"
I really admire Annie Waldrop's eye catching work.
The pieces are incredibly unique and crafted with skill and patience.
The titles of the pieces are also clever and alluring.

I saw her work HERE.
 It's well worth a look.

INFLUENCE
is the prompt this week at I.F

"In the beginning you must subject yourself to the influence of nature. You must be able to walk firmly on the ground before you start walking on a tightrope."
~ Henri Matisse

Above is the floor that I settled on, I like the idea of the fallen leaves.
Falling from her Tasmanian Blue Gum crown maybe?
(The State's representataional flora)
The painting is full symbols providing a timeline, geographic location, flora and fauna and it's volatile existence then and now.

I couldn't resist taking a photo of the sunrise this morning, the light was golden, the sun filling our hearts with promise after weeks of cold rains.
The lambs below say it all in their joyous dance.

They make me laugh with joy,
their innocence and wonder is contagious.

Wishing you all a joyous day,

Orange Bellied Parrot
(Neophema chrysogaster)

On the brink of extinction the Orange-bellied Parrot has been ranked as one of the world's rarest and most endangered species.

Fewer than 200 individuals of this rare and endangered species occur in suitable habitat in the far southwest of Tasmania. Birds migrate following the breeding season, and may be seen along the northwest coast and King Island

I really wasn't sure about this little guy.
He's small but has added a new dimension, he's like a little jewel.

"SWELL"
is the prompt this week at I.F

"Some days you must learn a great deal. But you should also have days when you allow what is already in you to swell up and touch everything. If you never let that happen, then you just accumulate facts, and they begin to rattle around inside of you." ~ E.L. Konigsburg
****
Oh no, not another owl!

Wishing you all a 'swell' weekend
(yes - even I'm cringing at that one!)

Eastern Quoll
(Dasyurus viverrinus)

The Tasmanian Eastern Quoll is not the kind of animal that someone would drape across their shoulders, just as the Tasmanian tiger (Thylacine) would never have been classed as a 'pet'. Both are/were wild animals and have many links in their species and demise.
Both are beautiful animals shrouded in mystery.

Eastern quolls once occured on mainland Australia, they are now considered extinct on the mainland. The species, fortunately, is widespread and locally common in Tasmania. It is found in a variety of habitats including rainforest, heathland, alpine areas and scrub.

Progression on the Thylacine piece...
I've decided on wall paper and colours that were in vogue in the 1920's/30's to help 'date' the image.
I've used a gold stripe on the red which is lovely but doesn't seem as clear in this image.
Her dress is decorated with the twisted limbs of a white gum native to Tasmania

So, now we have the species, a time line and location for the detectives out there, hopefully when the painting is complete, the story will not need any words.

more to come soon ...

P.S not sure what to do for the floor, I'm thinking old floor boards with leaves around their feet or leaving it plain or ...
any ideas?
