(SOLD)

FINISHED!

It's all finished and delivered to hand built creative, I hope they like it. This photo of the painting is a bit weird, I took it on my dodgy camera and the colours are a bit off. Also the painting itself has a lovely deep glossy texture which doesn't help with reflection.

I really enjoyed the process and mix of techy with old school...
Have a good Wednesday

Playing with light and colour

Playing with light and colour

I'm working on this piece for a lovely Scotsman named Dave who owns and runs Handbuilt Creative a Web Design company that does amazing things with computer technology that I have no understanding of.

Dave links his work with hands on creation and his alternate way of thinking has won the company numerous awards. Once again, I'm vague about all that techy stuff, BUT I like the way he thinks and combines left/right brain thinking. I have enough difficulty trying to get one side to work and even then I get confused about which side does what.

So I'm sticking to what I know and am happy with this design and the contrast in colours, I'm trying to play with light and colour. As you can tell with the ruler I'm really struggling with the straight lines, the ruler says it's straight so why does it look wonky? Hmmm

Chicken Life by The River

The Social Life Of Chickens

This sketch is of my home town with a little bit of artistic license,  we live in a small town in country Tasmania that has a little old church where we pray. It has a meandering river that goes passed our property and lots of charming buildings, shops and gorgeous people.

The buildings are mostly sandstone and not as colourful as these are depicted but I think that if the chickens, ducks and drakes had a say it might look a little bit more like this.

Ethel's Autumnal Bliss

The Social Life Of Chickens
Ethel leads the good life in her sweet little cottage in the woods. She has a gorgeous tree providing shade in the Summer, new life and growth in the Spring and because it's deciduous sunlight in the Winter months.
But, of course her favourite Season is  Autumn, with the magical colours of the foliage changing her entire home. There is also patterned detail all along the tree bark adding to her home's beauty.

I have added Ethel's home to 'The social Life of Chickens" Set,  available HERE.

BUG LOVE

I used to own a VW Bug (Aggie) it was my first car and we went on many adventures together. I often reminisce about the simple life I had and the absolute joy of climbing into Aggie feeling the elation of independence and control of my own destination.

Due to travel, Aggie found a new home. I regret not holding onto her, if only to have her turn into an upcycled chook home. In contrast to this illustration, I'd most probably have the chooks reside in the cabin (minus seats & wooden pallet flooring)with a huge floral garden in the bonnet ... one can dream.

I'm sure this little family is happy though and having their own little adventures. Image available in MY SHOP.

Sunny Chook Love

The sunny yellow homestead of these two love birds fills me with warmth. I imagine this couple as happy soul mates enjoying their beautiful garden.

Originally I thought they were an older couple retiring in the old homestead, but now I'm much more attracted to them being a young couple looking forward to a long future together with numerous chicks

The secret life of Chickens

I absolutely loved sketching this image, my mind was whirling with interior staircases, stained glass windows and camp etiquette for boys and girls.
The possibilities are endless and the imagination runs wild with architectural possibilities.
i hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed its creation

THE SOCIAL LIFE OF CHICKENS

This swashbuckler has the ultimate bachelor pad! Everything a marauder needs to impress the girls, I particularly like the stained glass windows. They were great fun to paint and I imagine that they would look beautiful with the light filtering through the leaves on the tree.

THE GYPSY CHICKS

Continuing on with 'The Social Life of Chickens'

This was super fun to sketch, these new-age-eco-sensitive brood know how to live the travelling life, I love the colour of their wagon and the geraniums.

But, it might be a tight squeeze when the little chicks grow up !

I'm working on a new series, it's called...

'THE SOCIAL LIFE OF CHICKENS'

Drawn from the curiosities of my own chooks and their social antics, investigative behaviours and amusing community savoir-faire.
I can't be the only person humbled by the funny walk, clucky banter and beautiful feathers of the modest chicken. I am the fortunate owner of 15 girls and one rooster... who is awaiting a name, more to come on that, but in the mean time...

Watercolour of the handsome Casanova available here.

Wishing you a good week,
Naomi
